Close Encounters of the Third Day

The movie classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was an enormously successful blockbuster. The opening scenes consisted of several seemingly unconnected events, which through music, images, and dialogue provided clues which ultimately (and surprisingly) culminated at the end of the film. Most of the film's posters declared: "We are not alone."

Science fiction and space enthusiasts as well as space scientists have long dreamed of having routine access to the unknown. We, as the emerging Third Day church, now make preparation to make astonishing and impressive discoveries. We strategize how to launch spiritual rockets toward the future and into “Deep Space” in an attempt to learn about the kingdom and the best way to apostolically maneuver the Mother-ship (church) to get into apostolic positioning for the New Day.

Spiritual “lift off” – is what we need. We need to find that certain velocity (of spiritual energy) that will bring us to the breakthrough point -- and into the entry of the Kingdom.

But how do we meet the challenges of connecting our energies and imaginations into what God is actually saying in the vast unknown of this New Day. So far, we’ve been trying to “get it” from our earthly vantage point. We’ve tried to figure out the Third Day from putting together the clues that remain. We’ve traveled from conference to conference -- waiting in lines for hours – just to have a good seat for another emotional experience. We seem to “need” just one more super prophecy. Usually, what we want is all about US, our OURS... rather than about Him. But, there’s one thing for sure, we’re not alone!

Like gravity, these negative forces of the religion (carnality) have continually pulled our thoughts into a place of ineffectiveness and defeat. Perhaps you’re like me and wonder how can we break free from these old ways of having church, going to church, and being church? How does our mission avoid further inordinate waits before finding these new discoveries?

Take a moment and consider...what would life be like if you could break through to find the immediacy of God? What would your life be like if you knew the answers to your problems? What if you could break through to an understanding of God’s timing? What if you knew the precise “time” of prophetic release? What would it be like to discover your destiny and break through to courage? What would it be like to have final break through and be healed of past hurts and disappointments?

Several hundred years ago, Isaac Newton taught us that if we exceed a certain velocity, then the gravity force of the earth cannot hold us. That’s it! Spiritual “lift off” – is what we need. We need to find that certain velocity (of spiritual energy) that will bring us to the breakthrough point -- and into the entry of the Kingdom. We need to obtain a lift-off that gets us to the place where we don’t have to struggle just to keep away from sin. We must find that place where our mind can totally reject the lure of tradition, religious thinking, old mindsets, ineffective ritual, self-interest, and victimization from control.

In order for us to have a “close encounter,” we must make a decision to achieve “lift off.” This velocity is the incisive issue, my friend. We must decide to reach new heights in our inheritance. But remember, lift off won’t take us “up there” somewhere – but it will enable us with an ability to SEE spiritually RIGHT HERE. We find it only when we disengage from those weighty and enticing religious and carnal influences that weigh us down.

POSITION YOURSELF FOR LIFT-OFF.

1. Connect to the desire to see and hear new vistas.

2. Deal with the fear of going to unknown places (ideas and concepts).

3. Detach (like a rocket from the booster) and cut the umbilical cord of past mindsets. Decide to no longer live the same way.

4. Learn the laws of living in the realm of spiritual reality and a brand new order.

5. Learn what it will take to get “there.” We’re all different. Different people require different amounts of force (energy) to “take off”… and to find displacement from the gravitational PULL of the familiar.

Our decision to “lift off,” will bring us to the breakthrough. Each time we accelerate, we grow closer to full RELEASE from this WORLD (and it’s fallen systems).

Once we’ve blasted off and passed through the barriers and boundaries of besetting old mindsets, we achieve that place of weightlessness. What a relief to be rid of those encumbering matters. Now, we can begin to look out the window. SEE. You’re not alone! God is right here. Right now!

As we achieve “warp speed” beyond our past limitations, we discover that the spiritual realm seems to overlap this temporal one. By this, I mean that we can easily connect to it… it’s not way over there, or up somewhere. We don’t have to struggle to find God’s presence.

Jesus, in His human life, exemplified a life completely yielded and in constant communion with the Father. He continually maintained full access to the supernatural realm. Jesus could synchronize His mind and will with heaven’s intention and become the very DOOR-way (entry) for Divine power and reality to come into this temporal realm.

And, the more dislodgment of unnecessary cargo (RELIGION, the WORLD, and our own carnal agendas, our own illusions, and our own issues) occurs, the deeper we can ascend and the more accurately we can access the functional reality of the uncharted spiritual realms. We soon find that the more we employ an operative jurisdiction over our temporal circumstances, the more we advance into our intended dominion.

Our role as Mission Engineers involves us in nearly all aspects of the project. We can indeed play a meaningful role in a thrilling excursion that allows us to probe the vaster intentions of the Scriptures without predetermined and often incorrect restrictions. Swift propulsion permits faster access to important and fascinating destinations beyond the solar system of our lives.

Many onlookers may not approve of the expenditures or the risk of these new adventures. There will be many who deny our discoveries and protest against new conclusions. But, be assured my fellow traveler, other bystanders are also watching – because you and I are “...Made a spectacle unto the world, both to men and angels” (1 Cor. 4:9). Can you see there’s another crowd… of witnesses cheering us onward? (Heb. 11-12).

The technological payload of our discoveries will be rigorously examined so that later seekers of Truth will be able to confidently build from our findings. We forerunners in this bold mission take risks so that future missions do not have to.

Assuredly, more and more believers will have opportunities to understand the REALITY of SPIRITUAL dimension. Jesus told Nathaniel that from the day of their meeting forward, he would see even greater power than he had realized before. That promise endures for us as well. Jesus added (Jn. 1:50), "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

The supernatural seems to connect right here. Remember how Jacob dreamed of a ladder (Gen. 28:12) that connected heaven and earth where the angels could ascend and descend? These portals of en-LIGHT-en-ment allow us to perceive unknown spiritual Truths and then be able to “translate” these revelations into an accessible, precise, applicable, everyday language of life – not into lofty language of religion.

The Kingdom of Heaven exists right here with us. Heaven isn’t just something to sing about or a place to look forward to someday. Heaven is wherever God is. Translating this divine reality into the human realm is shown by our living optimally on earth -- as it is in heaven. HERE and NOW. This manifestation requires the establishment of holy concepts beyond that which we can now define. Residing in Heaven must become a conscious total embracing of the awareness of the reality of God’s presence and miraculous power in our midst.

By apprehending redemptive thinking, we move closer and closer to SEEING the way things really are. Nothing else needs to be added to the finished work. Our old thought patterns must be broken and ex-changed for right thinking. We discover new stratospheres of enjoying eternal life with God.

The Third Day mentality receives full acceptance in the Beloved (Eph. 1:6), knowing that our identification is only In Christ (Phil. 1:21; Phil. 3:9). Because of our adoption as full grown sons (Gal. 4:5; Rom. 8:15), we have already been given an incorruptible inheritance (I Pet.1:4; Heb.9:15). His incorruptible seed (I Pet. 1:23) has grown within us and causes us to be stand blameless (Col. 1:22; I Thess. 5:23) and irreproachable (Col. 1:22) in His sight. Therefore, we press into the present truth of having full access to the Father (Eph. 2:13-18).

We have completely exchanged our old life for His (Gal. 2:20). We accept the work of the cross that has purchased our righteousness (I Cor. 1:30; II Cor. 5:21) and full forgiveness from all trespasses (Col. 2:13). We are guiltless and without condemnation (Rom. 8:1). Christ has delivered us from this evil age - Gal.1:4 and fully disarmed Satan (Col. 2:15).

We are blessed with All Spiritual Blessings (Eph. 1:3), boldly standing (Heb.10:19) as already justified (Rom. 4:25; 5:9) in His gracious liberty (II Cor. 3:17; Gal. 5:1; Rom. 8:21). We are the “called” (Rom. 8:30), the chosen or elect (Eph. 1:4; Col. 3:12) who are complete in Him (Col. 2:10). We walk with light in our hearts (II Cor. 4:6) because we are already a new creation (II Cor. 5:17) that reflects His Divine nature (II Pet. 1:4).

Our eternal life with God begins NOW, here on earth (Rom. 6:23; I John 5: 11,12,20) and we are secure in this salvation (I Pet. 1:5; John 10:28). We live to express the love of God (Gal. 5:22; Rom. 8:39; II Tim. 1:7) and manifest our lives as sons of God (Rom. 8:14). CHRIST LIVES and EXPRESSES HIS LIFE IN and THROUGH US. He lives in us and is our only life (Gal. 2:20, Phil. 1:21, I John 5: 10, 11; Rom. 5:10). His finished work of grace shows forth from us as we express His glory.

Glory = the manifestation and invasion of God’s LIKENESS into this temporal realm.

Glory = the inward nature of God expressed outwardly in our lives.

“Man fully alive is the glory of God” – Irenaeus.

This progress to a greater spiritual reality makes our lives functionally effective at a higher level. This is how heaven manifests on earth – by us demonstrating it right here. And remember, this new vantage point has to be maintained. Know this... every rocket that escapes the gravitational pull of where it came from, will encounter eminent disaster if it loses its velocity, forward thrust, and momentum.
